The Core of Who You Are

This week I was having a coaching conversation -- I start all my coaching conversations by asking what the client's intention is for our session. When I asked, she responded with, “I want to reconnect with the core of who I am”. You see, she had spent weeks feeling exhausted from a huge project at work that had her working day in and day out, the impact of COVID had her trying to navigate staying connected to her team as a new manager, and she was suffering from what I call “Mother Goose Syndrome”. Mother Goose Syndrome is caring so deeply for your team that you end up taking on more or shielding your team from additional work to make things easier for them. It sounds great in theory, but the impact is that it stunts the growth of your team and leaves you feeling exhausted!

Whether you relate to this story or something similar, one of the common things I notice in myself and in clients is that they’re trying to navigate how to stay connected with work, with friends, with family, and with their larger life/career goals and ultimately the thought of everything is leaving them exhausted and they’re finding themselves trying to rest by watching Netflix or endlessly scrolling the ‘gram., which is ultimately a form of checking out and can leave you feeling even more exhausted.

Where people tend to get it wrong is that they tend to focus on things outside of themselves to fill their cup instead of turning inward.

Turning inward looks like asking yourself these questions:

  • What are the qualities that define the CORE of who I am?

  • What are my top 3-5 CORE values?

  • What are the things that NOURISH my spirit?

Then you start taking action from that place. Taking action from a place that nourishes my spirit might look like spending more time outside, having a socially distant picnic with a girl friend, cooking a fun, new recipe or spending time doing something creative. Decide what action you’re going to take to nourish your spirit and then respond to this email and let me know!

Because I am committed to providing you with tools and experiences to make you feel alive -- I am hosting a workshop on the exact topic of connection. If you’re looking for more ways to create connection and feel more energized in your life right now I want to personally invite you to a virtual workshop I am hosting next Thursday July 30th at 7PM PST/10PM EST.  It’s $15 and you can RSVP by emailing karlie@karlieeverhart.com

Big love,
